Programme
10th January to 28th February 1999![]()
All meetings will be held at 34 Hilltop Drive, Oakham at 8.15pm until we tell you otherwise. Lifts will be provided home afterwards, and can be arranged before - give us a ring, the number’s on the back.
Please try to bring a Bible with you each week. In order to make Bible study easier, we are recommending that people who are thinking of buying a bible go for the Youth Bible. This is a modern translation (the New Century version) and also contains explanations and modern examples to help understand what is being taught. Many Challengers already have these and it helps solve some problems you get when working as a group with several different translations.
Along with your New Year resolutions, here is the program…
Another year – but what is going to happen to me? Fear is debilitating. It can bring depression, failure and jealousy. We explore ways to cope with it, and see how biblical figures handled it.
With the Jubilee 2000 project, we hear a lot about releasing the third world from debt. But why are they in that position? Laziness, bad luck, bad advice? A little simulation to try to understand a few of the reasons.
Bring your choice of music from 1998 that gives you a Christian message of one sort or another, and then say why. Please note – 24th and 31st January are subject to change if we find we are moving a week early.
Andy and Martin are finally moving house! We think…looks like the move is going to happen this weekend, and unless you like sitting on boxes we suggest you don’t come this week.
Martin and Andy are away (and no,we’re NOT on holiday this time (unless you take your holidays in Basingstoke!)) so Challengers will be having a video night at 1 Chaffinch Close (Hannah M’s house)
Join us for an evening of Valentines’ entertainment. Dress to impress, and bring a bible (bet no nightclub’s ever asked you for that!).
“My parents still treat me like a kid!” Ever said that, or thought it? What does the bible say about independence from your parents, and controlling your own life?
Abortion is legal – but is it biblical? Is there a place for it? Is abortion just women’s talk, or does it affect men as well?
Tuesday night pancake party – bring a filling, we’ll provide the pancakes.
A regular series of meets on Saturday nights every fortnight. Social meeting for Oakham youth at Jules, the building just next door to Oakham Baptist Church. Starts around 7pm.
Following on from the After Ours gig in October, we hope to turn it into a series of gigs, possibly every three
months or so. We are still working on sorting out bands and details, but any suggestions in to Hannah R. Watch
this space for more details…
