Programme 2nd May to 18th July 1999

All meetings will be held at 165 Cold Overton Road, Oakham at 8.15pm unless we tell you otherwise. Lifts will be provided home afterwards, and can be arranged before - give us a ring, the number's on the back.

Please try to bring a Bible with you each week. In order to make Bible study easier, we are recommending that people who are thinking of buying a bible go for the Youth Bible. This is a modern translation (the New Century version) and also contains explanations and modern examples to help understand what is being taught.

2nd May - No meeting (at least in Oakham!)

Those who are going on 'The Time of our Lives' will be in London, so there will be no meeting this evening.

9th May - Homosexuality

Who do you know who is homosexual? Is it an unfortunate natural tendency to be encouraged/accepted? What is the bible's view on homosexuality and how we should regard homosexuals?

16th May - The Commitments

Mustang Andy takes us through what is involved in commitment as a Christian. With backing from various bible figures.

23rd May - More from the Commitments

How we can keep our commitment to follow Christ all the time, through rough and smooth.

30th May - Bolton braces

Challengers moves to 6 Trent Road for the night, session taken by Janet and Peter Bolton. Bring bibles as usual, be nice to them, and explain what unleaded coke is before you ask for it…

6th June - No meeting

Andy and Martin have kindly gone on holiday, so you have a clear evening to get all that revision done.

13th June - Video night

We're on holiday! (well, actually, we're on our way back, but probably still at Gatwick at the moment). Video evening at 4 Kingfisher Close (Lyndsay's house).

20th June - Friendship without labels

Friendship is an important quality and an art to be cultivated by everyone. A look at friendship with some biblical examples.

27th June - Let's RYP!/Service prep

Rutland Youth Praise at Uppingham. Lifts to be arranged. Back to Andy and Martin's afterwards to prepare the service for next week.

4th July - Pheeeeeeeeeiiieeeeeeeeeeaaawewwwww!

A chance to collapse after the service at OBC this morning. Bring your swimming costume and something for the barbie.

11th July - Governments and politics

Like them or ignore them, politicians that you or your parents elect run the country. Is what Jesus said still relevant to government today?

A regular series of meets on Saturday nights every fortnight. Social meeting for Oakham youth at Jules, the building just next door to Oakham Baptist Church. Starts around 7pm. Pool table available, talk to Heather or Debbie for your music requests!

De Montford Hall, Leicester. Meet at Martin and Andy's, time and transport to be arranged.

4th July - Challengers Service

Next stop on the Challengers' tour takes us to OBC, for the morning service at 10.30am. (a service born on the 4th of July?). Any ideas in to Martin and Andy.

16th to 18th July - Beach Weekend II (the sequel)

If it is anything like last year, come fry with us! Challengers goes to the beach at Wells again. We will be camping at the same site as last year, which does have decent showers and is close to the beach. More details closer to the time. We need to book tent pitches, so can you let us know who is going and in what tents? The cost will be about £20-25. Oh yes, and anyone playing football at 6am this time is going to be going for a swim in the sea, carried in by the rest of us…

30th July to 3rd August - Soul Survivor

Challengers goes to Soul Survivor A at Shepton Mallet. Martin joins Alison Rogers as Village Host, and learns how to make hot chocolate, stop tents falling down and dry sleeping bags. He also claims the 'largest tent per person' award!
