Challengers LogoProgramme 12th September to 28th November 1999

All meetings will be held at 165 Cold Overton Road, Oakham starting at 8.15pm unless we tell you otherwise. Lifts will be provided home afterwards.

Please try to bring a Bible with you each week. In order to make Bible study easier, we are recommending that people who are thinking of buying a bible go for the Youth Bible. This is a modern translation (the New Century version) and also contains explanations and modern examples to help understand what is being taught.

12th September - Birthday Party

Challengers are two today - Andy's birthday is also today, although she's a little older than that. Come to our birthday party, and bring a friend along if you want to. Barbecue will be provided (we promise not to barbecue the friend), swimming available for those who want to (bring a costume and towel) - and bring any photos of Soul Survivor or the summer holiday, so we all get a look.

19th September - Check it out

This kicks off a series of Challengers sessions going through what it actually means to be a Christian. This first one is a bit of an opener for the series, so if you know anyone who has heard about this God thing and wants to check it out, this would be a good one to bring them along to.

26th September - Let RYP

Let Rutland Youth Praise! St.George's Barracks in North Luffenham, meet at 165 Cold Overton Road for a lift (time TBA). Afterwards, back to the house for a coffee, while we work out what we are going to do when we host 'Let RYP' at Oakham Baptist in November.

3rd October - What is God like?

Who do you think God is? What is he like? Let's explore the possibilities.

10th October - Sin

Small word, mucho trouble. What is sin? Does it matter what we do? Aren't we forgiven anyway? Can it actually hurt us?

17th October - Who is Jesus?

Who was the guy? Better known than David Beckham, more outspoken than Chris Evans, and older than Martin (just!). Why is he so important to this whole Christian thing?

24th October - Fruits of the Spirit

The Holy Spirit is just too big a subject to look at in one week, so we are splitting it up. This week we look at how the Holy Spirit can encourage us to grow, as Paul puts it, "like fruit". Although presumably not anything where Martin is involved in the gardening…

31st October - Let RYP at Halloween

An extended Let RYP at Cottesmore, to show that Christians can have fun on Halloween. More details to follow.

7th November - Gifts of the Spirit

Or the Holy Spirit II, the sequel. Anyone who was at Soul Survivor will have heard and seen a lot about spiritual gifts - but where do they actually fit onto your life as a Christian? Can you still be a Christian if you don't prophecy or speak in tongues? And, most importantly, where does the bible fit into this?

14th November - Prepare for 'Let RYP' at Oakham

Challengers are hosting the November 'Let RYP' next week - this is the chance to sort out what is going where and who is going to do it - not to mention what we are going to do in the first place…

21st November - Let RYP/Phew!

Phew's on a diet this program, so I have made it a bit shorter (blame Heather if you don't understand that joke!). We host Let RYP this evening, so please come up to the house afterwards and collapse as you wish - swimming and coffee available (we don't suggest you combine them - Swimming in coffee, the new fake tan?!)

28th November - We are family

Looking at how Challengers fit into the whole church thing, and what we can do for the church - and how the church can help us. Oh yes, and be prepared to be videoed…

Coming up:
4th, 18th September, 2nd, 16th, 30th October, 6th, 20th November - Jules

A regular series of meets on Saturday nights every fortnight. Social meeting for Oakham youth at Jules, the building just next door to Oakham Baptist Church. Starts around 7pm. Pool table available, talk to Heather or Debbie for your music requests! 18th September will be an open evening, so a good chance to meet people from outside Challengers.
