Programme 28th November 1999 to 13th February 2000![]()
Note to parents: Challengers is growing! We are now getting 14+ people per week, which is great - but we are starting to run into problems getting people home afterwards. We already have one volunteer who comes out every week to help with taking people home, but we really need four cars each Sunday night now. Is there anyone out there who is prepared to come each week at 9.45 and take 3-4 Challengers home? Or could two or three parents get together in a rota to help this? We absolutely do not want anyone not to be able to come because of logistics problems. Thanks.
Please try to bring a Bible with you each week. In order to make Bible study easier, we are recommending
that people who are thinking of buying a bible go for the Youth Bible. This is a modern translation (the New Century
version) and also contains modern explanations and examples to help understand what is being taught.
All meetings will be held at 165 Cold Overton Road, Oakham starting at 8.15pm unless we tell you otherwise.
What is prayer? Just talking to yourself, or the walls of your room? Is it something just done in church? Who do we actually pray to? And what can we ask for? Should it be more than just asking for things?
"I'll get you back for that". "Don't think you can run away from me - I'll find you". "That was unforgiveable". What does the Bible tell us about forgiveness? And how can we help each other to forgive practically?
Last Challengers before Christmas, so its party time! Food and drinks provided, swimming for those who want to (bring a towel and costume), and silly games both in the water and out of it. Bring a present for the tub (no more than £2).
"I never have any doubts about what I believe. Or at least I don't think so…". Christianity is great when you are on a high - but what about the low points? Has God forgotten us? Is he really there at all? How can we handle this?
Back by popular demand - your chance to put a question to our panel of experts. Questions in advance gives us a chance to work on them, but there will be a place for questions on the night as well. Just not about snakes' feet!(see Hannah R for details)
What do we think of our elected leaders? Do they reflect biblical principles? Are there any principles about politics in the bible? Could they do better? Could you do better? Find out in our simulation game.
Let RYP moves to Braunston (you see, Debbie, things do happen near you!). This time we get to be in the congregation! Meet at 165 Cold Overton Road at 5.30pm. Back afterwards for coffee.
Andy and Martin are in Milton Keynes. There is a good reason for this. Nothing to do with concrete cows, at least not directly… Challengers video night at 1 Chaffinch Close, Oakham (Hannah M's)
Love is in the air. Or at least the shops are hoping that you think it is. How does love fit into the bible? Are there different kinds of love?
A regular series of meets on Saturday nights every fortnight. Social meeting for Oakham youth at Jules, the building just next door to Oakham Baptist Church. Starts around 7pm. Pool table available, talk to Heather or Debbie for your music requests!
Youth service at Kettering - tell Andy or Martin if you are interested in going.
Start your summer holidays off early at the Challengers Beach Weekend! Forget Ibiza, Majorca, and Tenerife - Wells-next-the-Sea is the place to be (?!). A bit of teaching, a lot of relaxing, and sun (hopefully), sea (definitely), and sand (probably everywhere by the end of the weekend). More details to follow, but book the date in your diaries now!
