Challengers LogoProgramme 20th February to 16th April 2000

Please try to bring a Bible with you each week. In order to make Bible study easier, we are recommending that people who are thinking of buying a bible go for the Youth Bible. This is a modern translation (the New Century version) and also contains modern explanations and examples to help understand what is being taught.

All meetings will be held at 165 Cold Overton Road, Oakham starting at 8.15pm unless we tell you otherwise. Lifts will be provided home afterwards. We are still looking for someone to help with lists back afterwards - please check with your parents whether they would be able to help occasionally.

20th February - Desert Island Syndrome

All together now…"Da da da da dooo, da da da da doo, da da da da doo doo….". How would you react to life on a desert island, and what would it do to your faith? 7 gramophone records (like anyone of you would have 7 records these days anyway!) not required.

27th February - Let RYP Lyddington/Pancakes

Back to where it all started! Meet at 165 Cold Overton Road at 5.30pm. Also a good Let RYP to bring a friend along to, because afterwards…meet back for an early early pancake party at the house. Bring a topping as well as the friend!

5th March - Your philosophy on life

If we all had exactly the same outlook on life, things would be very boring. How do you develop your own philosophy on life, but still within how the Bible tells us to live?

12th March - Life after death

How can we know what happens after death? It's a bit difficult to get messages back…but what are we told happens? And does it matter? Why do Christians make such a big thing out of eternal life?

19th March - Music night

Bring a song, bring a Christian reason for playing it, or something that you learnt from it that helped your faith. Doesn't need to be a Christian song specifically, but you do need to have a reason for choosing that one.

26th March - Let RYP Ketton

This one I have to look up! Assuming that someone shows me where Ketton is by then, meet at 165 Cold Overton Road at 5.30pm, and back afterwards for drinks.

2nd April - Planning ahead

"Hey, Jan, what'ya doing Saturday night?"
"Dunno - haven't really thought that far ahead…"
Do you ever plan ahead? Or do you let it happened to you? And is this going to always work, or do you just enjoy running from crisis to crisis? Michael Heseltine (MP) reckoned he planned out his entire career on a cigarette packet when he was 16 - should we do that as well? And what does the Bible say about this?

9th April - Resurrection assault course

Did Jesus really rise from the dead? Or did the disciples fake it? How can we know? And why do Christians make such a big thing about it? Does it really matter whether Jesus was resurrected or not? Work through our resurrection assault course and find out!

16th April - Christ in Quiet

What is Easter? Eggs, cards, and the second occasion in the year that people actually go to church? Or does it have something to do with a guy being tortured to death 2000 years ago? We take time out to think about what Easter is actually about.

Coming up:
4th and 18th March, 1st and 15th April - Jules

A regular series of meets on Saturday nights every fortnight. Social meeting for Oakham youth at Jules, the building just next door to Oakham Baptist Church. Starts around 7pm. Pool table available, talk to Heather or Debbie for your music requests.

21st to 23rd July - Beach Weekend

Start your summer holidays off early at the Challengers Beach Weekend! Forget Ibiza, Majorca, and Tenerife - Wells-next-the-Sea is the place to be (?!). A bit of teaching, a lot of relaxing, and sun (hopefully), sea (definitely), and sand (probably everywhere by the end of the weekend). More details to follow, but book the date in your diaries now!
