Program
3rd May - 28th June
All meetings will be held at 34 Hilltop Drive, Oakham at 8.15pm unless we tell you otherwise. Lifts will be
provided home afterwards, and can be arranged before - give us a ring, the number’s on the back.
Because we know this is exam time, we are trying something slightly different – we are studying our way through a whole book of the New Testament, Paul’s letter to the Colossians, rather than our normal method of taking a topic each week and using the bible to explain it.
We would love everyone to come each week through the exam period; but we both know how bad exam time can be (it wasn’t that long ago…!). We will be praying for everyone doing exams each week, and a prayer list of each person’s exam times will be sent round to help this.
We’re getting away to Wales this weekend, and we can’t even pronounce where we are going – so this will be a video evening at 3 Kingfisher Close (Lyndsay’s house).
At the time of year where the last minute that you left your revision to has arrived, let’s look at the whole idea of what we use our time for (apart from filling in long answers to impossible questions in boring halls).
It’s 1500 odd miles to Greece, we’ve got 42kg of luggage allowance, half a bottle of sun tan cream, it’s the middle of the night, and we’re wearing sunglasses – ‘cos we’re on holiday, right! Thanks to Merv and Sue for hosting Video Evening II (the sequel) at 12 Kestrel Road.
Where was Colosse, and why did Paul write a letter to the people there? What was the background to the New Testament letter to the Colossians? How does Paul introduce the letter (Colossians 1:1-14)
Colossians 1:15-23. Why is Christ all we should ever need?
Colossians 1:24–2:5. What can we learn from Paul’s example?
Colossians 2:6-23. Where do human traditions and rules fit in with the life God wants us to lead?
Colossians 3:1-4:6. If not through human traditions or standards, how should we live? What guidelines are there for a Christian life? The last study on Colossians.
Celebrate the end of the exam season with a barbecue and party – hopefully in the garden if the weather is good enough (and Martin gets round to cutting the grass by then)…
Get away after exams – or, for those not doing exams this year, just get away anyway. A weekend camping at Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, with some teaching, some worship, and lots of sun (we hope), sea (we can guarantee), and sand (there was last time we were there).
