Programme
8th November to 20th December![]()
All meetings will be held at 34 Hilltop Drive, Oakham at 8.15pm unless we tell you otherwise. Lifts will be provided home afterwards, and can be arranged before - give us a ring, the number’s on the back.
Please try to bring a Bible with you each week. In order to make Bible study easier, we are recommending that people who are thinking of buying a bible go for the Youth Bible. This is a modern translation (the New Century version) and also contains explanations and modern examples to help understand what is being taught. Many Challengers already have these and it helps solve some problems you get when working as a group with several different translations.
With only a few (like 40 or so) shopping days left until Christmas, here are the latest offers…
Why are people allowed to suffer? Whose fault is it? Why does God let it happen? Can we do anything to avoid it?
The idea is for everyone to throw in loads of ideas for the service at Uppingham METHODIST (thank-you, Hannah!). That way, you stop Martin playing his Eagles records again, and proving that he is far too old to lead a youth group…seriously, we will be sorting out the service this evening. The theme is going to be “Making the choice” and contributions of ideas are really welcomed.
A few more eees every time – we’ll hit the date soon…relax and mull over how the service went. Food available.
This is another big topic. After Dolly the sheep, when do we get Molly the human? Should scientists be allowed to study genetics in this way? How does this sort of research effect us, or does it?
A musical by Roger Jones, this tells of the origin of the Bible Society. Staged in All Saints church, Oakham at 7.30pm with a choir from all the churches. Anyway, you have to come to this, ‘cos Martin’s playing and Andy’s running sound for it!
Having discussed the issues in the previous session, now let’s look at the bible. But surely there is nothing about Genetic Engineering in a book 2000 years old? How could there be?
A couple of ideas on people and presents, just to round off the year. And no, Matt, that title is NOT a typo!
The second of what we are hoping will develop into a regular series of meets on Saturday nights. Social meeting for Oakham youth at Jules, the building just next door to Oakham Baptist Church. Starts around 7pm.
A new church for a Challengers service, although not for some Challengers members – we are at Uppingham Methodist Church to take the morning service. Rehearsals to be arranged.
Since everyone enjoyed the After Ours gig so much, we hope to turn it into a series of gigs, possibly every three months or so. We are still working on sorting out bands and details, but any suggestions in to Hannah R. Watch this space for more details…
